Sweet Success for APSF's First Fundraiser

Sunday, June 2nd, children and adults alike gathered at Southern Peak Brewery for an ice cream eating contest, a fundraiser for our Apex Public Schools Foundation, a nonprofit, volunteer organization designed to help fund initiatives in the 18 Apex WCPSS schools. Registered participants didn’t enjoy just any old ice cream—they ate delicious ice scoops of vanilla provided by FRESH. Local Ice Cream in Apex. Divided by age groups, participants raced to eat their bowls of ice cream with NO UTENSILS and NO HANDS!

No ice cream competition is complete without judges. Jacques Gilbert, one of our board members and former Captain of Apex Police Department, and Miss Apex, Sydney McCoy had a tough job: to identify who emptied their bowl first!

We could not have done it without the ice cream, the space, and the prizes donated by our community partners Southern Peak Brewery and Fresh Local Ice Cream. Wes Moyer with Modern Woodmen of America matched the first $1,500 raised! Children had their faces painted courtesy of Blue Lights College of Apex. Winners received prizes donated by DEFY Apex and Whole Brain Escape, as well. Days before our one-year anniversary, we were grateful for such a successful event and all the support from the community. We look forward to more events, and to supporting students, teachers and schools with our Teacher Grant Program.
