Transitioning back to school in a time of physical distancing and masks is hard. It can be stressful and anxiety provoking for students and parents alike. With schools opening up for in-person learning again, it is increasingly important for parents and guardians to be attuned to their child’s mental health and wellness. Parents and guardians can help children by planning the transition, making strong connections, and re-establishing routines. With the right support and access to local resources, children can adjust, make new friends, learn new things, and thrive socially and emotionally. Dr. Laura Politte will discuss the broad impact of COVID-19 on mental health, how to recognize the signs of anxiety, and share strategies parents can easily use to support their children’s mental health as they transition back to school.
